A recent change by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) could create new risks for manufacturers that rely on mailed tax filings, payments or regulatory documents. Under a USPS rule that took effect Dec. 24, 2025, most machine-applied postmarks now reflect the date mail is processed at a postal facility, not when it is dropped off. As a result, documents mailed before a deadline could receive a later postmark and be considered late. Manufacturers with time-sensitive tax, payroll or compliance filings should review mailing practices, consider requesting manual postmarks, using certified mail or shifting to electronic filing where available. 1/7/2026
