Manufacturers Continue to Hire at Fastest Pace in 28 Years

U.S. manufacturing employment increased by 30,000 in July. According to Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Association of Manufacturers, the sector hired 271,000 employees during the first seven months of 2022 — adding to the 365,000 workers hired in 2021, the most since 1994.

Currently, the U.S. manufacturing sector has more than 12.8 million employees. From July 2021 to July 2022, the subsectors leading the way in hiring nationwide were food manufacturing (67,200), fabricated metal products (57,100), and transportation equipment (57,100). 8/9/2022
