Ohio’s Employment-to-Population Ratio Lagged In 2021

Currently, Ohio’s labor force participation only slightly trails the U.S. average. But the Buckeye State lagged most other Midwestern states in the employment-to-population ratio last year, according to new federal data.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statics reports that 58.4% of Ohio’s population was employed in 2021. Nebraska had the highest employment-to-population ratio (67.7%); West Virginia had the lowest (51.9%). 3/10/2022

DOL Plans ‘Vigorous’ Enforcement of Wage and Hour Protections

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced a new initiative to “vigorously” enforce the wage and hour protections of warehouse and logistics workers.

According to HR Dive, the initiative will focus on ensuring employees “are paid their legally owed minimum and overtime wages, are safe from harassment and retaliation, and are provided proper time off as enshrined in the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). It also will target misclassification of employees as independent contractors.” 2/16/2022

Congress Ends Mandatory Arbitration for Workplace Harassment, Assault Disputes

February 18, 2022

Earlier this month, Congress approved a measure that allows new claims of sexual harassment and assault be filed in court, rather than be subject to pre-dispute mandatory arbitration clauses.
