Study Blames Government Benefits for Labor Shortage

There are still at least 3 million fewer Americans working now than in 2019. According to a recent study by a free-market think tank, a key factor for this shortage appears to be taxpayer-funded unemployment benefits combined with federal health care subsidies.

This table lists the estimated work-related earnings that two adults with two dependent children would need to match available unemployment benefits and ObamaCare subsidies in each state, as calculated by the study’s authors. In Ohio, the annual figure is $66,506. 1/5/2023
