Rebecca Andriani Joins OMA Staff as Director of Workforce Services

January 7, 2022

Rebecca Andriani has joined the OMA staff as the director of workforce services. In this capacity, Rebecca will help guide the OMA’s efforts to boost earn-and-learn initiatives, grow Ohio’s network of industry sector partnerships, educate young people about manufacturing’s career pathways, and more.

Prior to joining the OMA staff, Rebecca worked in education as an intervention specialist. Before that, she served two years as a City Year AmeriCorps member in under-resourced schools. Rebecca is excited to join OMA’s workforce services to enhance the ability of Ohio manufacturers — and their local workforce partners — to solve the state’s manufacturing talent challenges.

Rebecca is a graduate of The College of Wooster, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in French and Francophone Studies. In her free time, she enjoys serving her church community, creating art and music, and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephew.

A Workforce Tool for 2022: Ohio MEP Internship Program

January 7, 2022

The internship program offered by Ohio’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) provides a useful tool for 2022 workforce efforts. The program, which has its own web page at the Ohio Department of Development website, pairs high school and trade school students with manufacturers, providing a win-win situation for manufacturers and students entering the field.

The program reimburses 50% (up to $1,500) of a student intern’s wages. In previous years, an estimated 80% of MEP interns were offered full-time employment by the end of their internships. For more, contact your regional Ohio MEP partner or email the Department of Development. 1/4/2022

Federal Panel Examines Ways to Boost Manufacturing Workforce

January 7, 2022

The Bipartisan Congressional Skilled American Workforce Caucus — comprised of federal lawmakers — recently hosted a panel discussion to address manufacturing’s talent needs. The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), an OMA Connections Partner, was represented on the panel and shared ideas to enhance workforce development, including making apprenticeship programs easier for small and mid-size manufacturers to use.

Meanwhile, an AEM report indicates the new federal infrastructure law will create roughly 500,000 new manufacturing jobs over the next three years, including more than 100,000 in the equipment manufacturing industry. 1/3/2022
