Update: As previously provided, on September 9, 2013, Republic Steel (“Republic”) filed an application requesting the PUCO to approve a unique arrangement with Ohio Edison Company (“FirstEnergy”) in order to expand its production facility in Lorain, Ohio, including the installation and operation of an Electric Arc Furnace (“EAF”).

This week, AEP-Ohio and the Ohio Energy intervened in the proceeding.  The OMAEG should intervene in the proceeding and advocate that Republic’s request be evaluated on an individual basis through an open and transparent process.  This action should be taken approximately within the next 3-5 weeks.  The attorney examiner has not yet issued a procedural schedule in the case, but that should likely occur within the next month.  When the procedural schedule is issued, we will have a better understanding of the exact date in which action must be taken.  We will continue to monitor the case docket and will provide updates accordingly.
