Update: In accordance with two provisions from the PPA settlement which the Commission modified and approved, AEP filed reports on the state of the PJM market and on its plans for grid modernization. In its report on the PJM market, AEP states that it has been a longtime market participant and that it recognizes the potential benefits associated with a market paradigm for both capacity and energy. Nonetheless, in AEP’s view, PJM needs to recognize that there is a place within PJM for generation supported both by the market and by traditional cost-of-service regulation. In its grid modernization report, AEP states that it sees great value associated with modernizing the distribution grid. According to AEP, integrating advanced technologies into the existing electric grid can improve service quality and reliability, lower energy consumption, increase customer control in energy consumption, and save money.
