Soaring property tax bills are fueling a push among some Ohio lawmakers to abolish property taxes altogether.
Average home values in Cuyahoga County rose 32% after a 2024 reappraisal, leaving many residents, especially seniors on fixed incomes, struggling to pay.
Republican State Reps. Jennifer Gross and Tex Fischer, along with Lake County Commissioner John Plecnik, have signed a petition to place a constitutional amendment on the 2026 ballot to end all property tax collections, which generate more than $20 billion annually.
