Manufacturing Keeps Hiring Momentum Alive

U.S. job openings were little changed at 6.9 million in January, but manufacturing moved in the right direction, with job openings rising to 495,000 from 426,000 in December.

Manufacturing hires also edged up to 295,000, while separations slipped to 294,000, a sign the sector continues to create opportunity even in a competitive labor market. The broader economy stayed relatively steady, with hires unchanged at 5.3 million and total separations little changed at 5.1 million.

“Manufacturing continues to open doors for people who want to build a career, develop skills and grow,” said Dave O’Neil, director of communications for the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association. “That is good news for workers, good news for employers and another reminder that manufacturing remains one of the best places to find opportunity and momentum.” 3/18/2026
