Last week, the OMA Energy Group and others urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to strengthen regulatory oversight of supplemental transmission projects, which can be approved with limited review while their costs are ultimately recovered from customers. With transmission spending in Ohio now exceeding $3 billion annually, the OMA has emphasized that customers should not be expected to provide a blank check for transmission spending.

Meaningful regulatory oversight, transparency, and stakeholder review are necessary to ensure projects are truly needed, costs are reasonable, and utilities are held accountable before hundreds of millions of dollars in additional transmission investments are passed through to Ohio manufacturers and other customers. 9/16/26
