Ohio’s employer-driven approach to workforce development earned national attention last week as the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA) joined New Growth Group and the Ohio Association of Community Colleges at the 2026 National Council for Workforce Education Conference. More than 500 workforce leaders, educators and industry partners gathered to explore ways to better connect training with employer needs.

During a session titled “Beyond Collaboration,” OMA highlighted how its Manufacturing Competency Model is helping align classroom instruction with the skills manufacturers actually need. The presentation featured Ohio initiatives including Technician Fast Track, community college curriculum alignment and emerging semiconductor workforce pathways.

The discussion showcased how Ohio’s manufacturers, colleges and workforce partners are moving beyond traditional collaboration to build a more coordinated system that prepares workers for in-demand careers and helps employers develop the talent they need to compete. 10/28/2026
