The DeWine-Husted administration has proclaimed November is Hire-a-Veteran Month. Ohio is home to nearly 725,000 veterans, which ranks fifth nationally. On this Veterans Day, the OMA is sharing the following tips to help members recruit veterans to manufacturing careers:
- Consider posting on vets’ job boards, such as this federal site. This U.S. Department of Labor site matches open jobs with military occupation codes. Don’t forget about OhioMeansJobs and its military-friendly employer registry.
- Remember, OhioMeansJobs can help employers search for available veterans and get information on tax credits and training programs available to employers that hire vets.
- Contact a representative at the Ohio Department of Veterans Services and the agency’s Veterans Workforce Team; let them know your business wants to hire a vet.
- Get involved with the Manufacturing Institute’s “Heroes MAKE America” initiative. Register now for a Nov. 13 webinar about the program. Also, check out the U.S. Chamber’s “Hiring Our Heroes” events.
