Miami University President Gregory Crawford put Ohio manufacturing workforce development in the spotlight during Thursday’s State of the University address, highlighting the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA) and its newly launched Workforce Training Directory as part of the university’s commitment to preparing students for careers in manufacturing.

Miami University is one of seven institutions earning Gold Star recognition in OMA’s new directory, which helps manufacturers identify training programs that deliver the skills their operations need. Crawford’s recognition underscored the growing role of partnerships between higher education and industry in addressing Ohio’s manufacturing workforce needs.

“It’s great to see a university president recognize that manufacturing careers are a big part of Ohio’s future,” said Nick Miller, OMA managing director of member services and policy engagement. “Miami is doing more than talking about workforce development. It’s connecting students with the skills and opportunities that employers actually need. That’s how we build partnerships that make a difference.” 11/5/2026
