| Vistra is in line for up to $4.2 billion in conditional federal loans to support upgrades at nuclear power plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including its Perry and Davis-Besse facilities.
The financing was announced this week by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright as part of the Trump administration’s effort to support continued operation and upgrades at existing nuclear facilities. The Department of Energy estimates the projects could extend the lives of the plants and support reliability across the region. “Vistra has been an important part of Ohio’s energy landscape, and this investment reflects continued confidence in the state and its energy infrastructure,” said Lindsey Short, managing director of advocacy and energy services for the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association. “We’re pleased to see continued investment in facilities that play an important role in Ohio’s electric system.” The loans are not yet final. Vistra must satisfy legal, technical and environmental conditions before federal funding is provided. If completed, the projects would extend operations at the plants beyond their current federal license limits. The announcement comes as Ohio and the broader PJM region continue to confront questions around reliability, affordability and how major energy investments should be financed. 10/6/2026 |
